How To Measure Your Self-Worth

This is a post I recently put up on social media, and I wanted to share it here for those of you who may not have Instagram. So I will be adding these "baby blogs" from time to time if there is a message I wrote about that I feel more people out there need to hear! Feel free to comment and chime in with your thoughts below, and also share this link with anyone you feel may benefit from the message!

Once upon a time, I measured my worth based on whether I could wrap my hands around the top of my thigh and have my fingers touch. If they didn't, I made that mean that I was a failure. I would then calculate how much I had to exercise or how little I had to eat to correct this self-imposed failure immediately. Oh, how I wish I could go back in time and give my younger self the biggest hug, and tell her it's all going to be okay someday.

Today, I don't measure my worth at all because I know now that it is not conditional on anything outside of me. If I were to measure it, it would be based on my capacity to give and receive love, or to speak my truth and make this world a better place. Our worth is not subjective. You are worthy. Always. It's as simple as that.

So next time you catch yourself critiquing your reflection in the mirror or pinching the parts of yourself you don't like, remember that those things don't define you. Your ability to love yourself in spite of them does. #chooselove
